Star Updates

July, 2017

Our 3 boys participated in their first USTA junior tournament on July 21 at Druid Hills Country Club. Each boy played 3 matches and saw first-hand how competitive the field is!  Nishant was able to win 2 out of his 3 matches.  These boys all had fun and we were all so proud of their efforts and the wonderful atmosphere they have created by exhibiting support for each other and camaraderie.

June, 2017

Staley’s Stars became a reality by the generous donations of Angela Staley’s friends and family, advanced by the many volunteer hours of supporting staff. It was Angela’s dream to respond to her troubled childhood with a scholarship for children. She wished her legacy live through tennis, for tennis became her passion. But her passion arrived late in life. It was not until a college P.E. class that Angela picked up her first tennis racquet. And it was not until twenty years of lessons, matches, and tournaments that Angela realized she began tennis twenty years too late.

Staley’s Stars reflects Angela’s ambitions to excel from the beginning. The mission is to sponsor a junior tennis career from the start. To sponsor only means to provide. There is no ceiling to burst, nor expectation to surpass. Performance comes side effect of persistence, and for as long as students have a passion for the game, their promised opportunities may continue through Staley's Stars.

Under the guidance of SSTA Executive Director, Judi Edwards, the careers of Levi, Mateo, and Nishant have begun. And since any career should include proper style and equipment, the program director, Rachel Staley took the juniors to the local pro-shop for some matching S.W.A.G. (Stuff We Athletes Get). Today the three juniors train for upcoming Summer, USTA tournaments. Their coaches volunteer weekly from KLT and local academies. The program is still young, but as the journeys progress, these updates will continue.
